How to change the built-in domain on your Squarespace website
When you first create a Squarespace website, Squarespace will automatically assign you a built-in domain.
The problem with these automatic domains however is they’re usually the strangest combination of words imaginable.
Now you’re probably thinking that it doesn’t really matter what the built-in domain is, as you’ll be using an official domain anyway, likely one you’ve bought from GoDaddy or Squarespace.

And whilst this is true, it’s always good to change the built-in domain to be as relevant as possible, especially if you’re sending out a link to your website, for instance to your client, before you’ve registered the official domain and connected it to your Squarespace site.
How to change the built-in domain on a Squarespace website
Head to your website settings and select domains.
Here you’ll see your built in domain and I can bet you it’s something totally bizarre. Anyway, here you can simply change your built-in domain to something more relevant to your brand.
You may have to try out a few different options in order to find a built-in domain that isn’t already in use on another website but once you’ve found one that’s available, hit rename and confirm and your built-in domain will be changed.
Remember, your built-in domain won’t be the final domain users use to access your website once it’s published (providing you connect an official domain that you’ve purchased) so don’t worry if you aren’t able to use an exact brand match.
And that’s it. A task that takes just a few minutes to complete but that will help to position your Squarespace website more professionally to users, especially those who have admin access.
