AI generated text on Squarespace | Step-by-step guide

AI

AI is everywhere at the moment. Whether you’re looking for answers to the most pressing questions, something to write your content or a robot to create designs and artwork, there’s an AI on the market to help.

It’s taken them some time but Squarespace have finally caught up with just how influential AI is at the moment and have launched a new update allowing users to generate copy for their websites.

Creating website copy is time consuming and really requires the skills of a copywriting expert who can ensure content is optimised for SEO and to achieve maximum conversions. Now however, Squarespace lets you skip the need to hire a copywriter.

Squarespace AI Generative text

Let’s take a look at how to use the AI generative text on Squarespace…

The ability to generate your copy with AI applies to any text box on Squarespace. Once you’ve added the text box, when you click on it a lightning bolt icon will appear, clicking on this presents you with a prompt to accept the use of AI generated text.

Once you’ve accepted that, you’ll be presented with an array of different prompts asking you to describe what text you want to generate.

For example, for the text within your hero section you may write “I want to write a title that sells pom poms to sports teams”.

Hit generate and Squarespace will present you with an optimised title that meets your needs. If you’re happy with it simply hit insert and it will be added to your text box.

There are tons of different prompts and types of content you can ask it to create, from titles like the example above to subheadings, persuasive paragraphs and detailed pros and cons for your products or services.

Like with most AI generated things, you still need to exercise some human insight and design flair to the content.

Unless you specify otherwise, in most cases the AI will produce paragraphs that are far too long for your website, meaning you’ll need to read through the copy and edit it down.

The best way to use this feature is as a starting foundation for your website copy rather than expecting it to produce the finished result.

For example, if you ask the AI to produce some copy on the health benefits of Pom Pom shaking, you can break up the text it generates and spread it over the whole web page, rather than cramming it all into one, overwhelming text box.

AI copy tools can be brilliant time savers and Squarespace’s is no exception but the robot revolution isn’t quite here yet. For the best results combine the AI generation with your own design skills and common sense.

AI doesn’t need to be scary, in fact it can really enhance our lives and our website building, so go away and have a play around with the new AI copy generator on Squarespace and see how you can best use it for your own websites.
