Change Blog Post URL Format in Squarespace
If you're coming from a WordPress background, you're probably used to having the date and title in your blog post URLs.
What you might not know is that Squarespace allows you to customize your blog post URLs in a similar way, giving you full control over your URL structure for SEO and readability.
Personally, I prefer to keep URLs clean with just the post title, but some users like including dates, months, or even custom text.
In this guide, I’ll show you how to format your blog URLs in Squarespace to match your preferences.

Step-by-Step Guide to Changing Blog Post URL Format in Squarespace
Follow these steps to set up your preferred blog post URL format:
Log into Squarespace and go to your site’s dashboard.
Click on Settings.
Scroll down and select Blog Preferences.
Locate the option labeled Post URL Format.
Here you’ll be given all of the options/symbols you need for different URL formats:
%Y – Year
%M – Month
%D – Day
%T – Blog title (default setting)
You can manually enter these placeholders in any order you like. For example:
Default format: yoursite.com/blog/title
With year included: yoursite.com/blog/
Full date format: yoursite.com/blog/%Y-%M-%D-%T
Custom prefix: yoursite.com/blog/my-cool-blog-%Y-%M-%D-%T
Make sure to manually add dashes (-) between placeholders for readability. Without them, the URL will run together (e.g. 202522blog-title).
Once you’ve set up your desired format, click Save. This change will automatically apply to all new blog posts.
I always recommend checking the settings have been updated by adding a test blog and checking the URL is in the correct format in your blog post settings.
