Change thickness of bold text on Squarespace

Changing the weight of the font on a Squarespace website is a great way to add depth and interest to a page, especially if you have a lot of text to display.

Squarespace gives designers the option to have normal, bold or monospace text. However if you want to take it one step further and change the thickness of your bold text, you’ll need to use some custom code.

The great thing about this specific piece of code is that it’s super versatile and actually gives you the option of up to nine different font weights to choose from, allowing you to make your bold text as bold as you want.

The code you need to add to your custom CSS panel is:

strong {

font-weight: 900 !important;

}

‘strong’ ensures you’re targeting the bold text on your website whilst adding !important’ ensures it overrides any other code that may be on your website that could affect the thickness of your font.

The font weight you can choose ranges from 100-900 in increments of 100 meaning you can pick 100, 200, 300, 400 etc.

600 is around the weight of normal bold text, going below this will make it thinner (but still bold) whilst going above this will make it thicker.

It’s important to note that how thick you can make your font will depend on the font you’re using, some fonts can be made thicker than others.

Once you’ve selected the weight you want to use for your bold text, hit save and your changes will appear on your website.
