Change the Email that Contact Forms Get Sent to on Squarespace
As a web designer or business owner, you want to ensure that your website’s contact form is working flawlessly.
However, a common mistake that I see many beginners make is having the wrong email set up in the contact form.
If you’ve set the wrong email address, every submission from your website visitors will be sent to the wrong place - meaning you'll miss out on valuable inquiries, feedback, and potential clients.
In this blog post, I'll walk you through how to check for this mistake, recover any missed submissions, and fix it moving forward to ensure you never miss an important message again.

Why the Right Email in Your Contact Form is Crucial
The contact form is often the main way visitors get in touch with you, whether they’re asking questions, making inquiries, or requesting a quote. If your contact form is sending submissions to the wrong email address, all these messages will be lost, potentially costing you business opportunities.
How to Find and Recover Missed Contact Form Submissions
If you've realized that you’ve missed some contact form submissions because they were sent to the wrong email, don’t worry - there's a way to find them.
Go to Your Contact Settings. Start by logging into your website's backend and navigating to Contacts in your dashboard.
Access Form Submissions Within Contacts. Click on Lists and Segments. Here, you’ll find a section called Form Submitters. This area contains all the contact form submissions that have come through your site, regardless of whether they were sent to the correct email address or not.
Review the Submissions In the Form Submitters Section. You can view every submission, including the person’s name, email address, and message. This is your safety net - if you’ve missed any submissions, you can go back here to recover the information.
While this method allows you to recover any lost inquiries, it’s essential to fix the issue to ensure future submissions are sent to the correct email.
How to Fix the Wrong Email Address in Your Contact Form
Access Your Contact Form. Go to the Website > Pages section in your site’s dashboard, then select the page where your contact form is located. This could be the homepage or a dedicated contact page.
Edit the Form. Click on the Edit button for the page containing your contact form. Once in the editor, double-click on the contact form to open the form settings.
Update the Email Address. In the form settings, find the Storage section, which is where the form submissions are directed. If you see the wrong email address listed, change it to the correct one.
Test the Form. Once you've updated the email address, it’s always a good idea to send a test submission to make sure everything is working properly. Fill out the contact form on your website and ensure the email is received in your inbox.

Best Practices for Contact Forms
Use a Professional Email Address: Always use a professional email address that is connected to your domain (e.g. info@yourbusiness.com or support@yourbusiness.com). Avoid using generic email services like Gmail or Yahoo, as it can make your business appear less professional.
Check Form Submissions Regularly: Make sure to check your contact form submissions regularly. Don’t just rely on email notifications - periodically log into your site’s backend to ensure everything is functioning as expected.
Test Your Forms After Every Update: Whenever you make changes to your website, including updating form fields or email addresses, always test the forms to confirm everything is working as it should.
Conclusion
Having the wrong email address in your contact form can be a costly mistake, but it’s easy to fix. By following the steps above, you can recover any missed submissions and ensure future inquiries go to the right email address. Remember, maintaining accurate and up-to-date contact forms is crucial for your business to stay connected with potential clients and customers.
