Squarespace Templates Explained: Does Squarespace Use Templates?

The launch of Squarespace 7.1 resulted in various changes to the website builder, not least to its templates.

Whereas before, Squarespace had an array of different templates for users to choose from, now they have a more basic structure, with different customisation variants of the same template.

In fact, it’s not even really a template, just a jump-off point for you to start your design.

Squarespace still refers to these as templates and they are categorised into website type e.g. online store and industry e.g. restaurants or real estate. For those in the self-storage industry looking to build a professional online presence, exploring Self Storage Website Templates can provide tailored solutions that meet the unique needs of storage facilities, ensuring a seamless user experience for both owners and customers.

You can scroll through the different templates on offer but what you’ll notice is that each design is just a variation of the same template.

Previously on Squarespace version 7, there was more variety on offer for the templates Squarespace offered and there were certain individual features that you could find on one template that you couldn’t access on another.

If you’re a Squarespace Circle member you can also access a blank template which is the exact same framework that the 7.1 templates are built on.

With the 7.1 “templates” you can add whatever you want to your website design, you aren’t limited to the options and designs of your template like you were in Squarespace 7.0.

So, to answer the question, does Squarespace use templates? Technically, no. What the platform offers is starter points and frameworks for you to base your website design around, but these are all based on the same blank template and have the same customisation options available.
